Privacy policy

What we collect: very little. You can use all of Feelsalike's browsing and recommendations without an account, and in that case we don't know who you are and we like it that way. Accounts are optional and exist only to power the member features described below.
Accounts. If you sign in (with Google, or a sign-in link emailed to you; we never store passwords), we keep: your email address and name; your watchlist and watched list; your collections and favorites; your streaming-services selection; who you credit for recommendations; and any takes you log (dates, ratings, feelings, notes). Your takes are private: they are never shown to anyone but you, never public, and never used for anything except your own pages. Sign-in uses one essential cookie (an opaque session id) and nothing else. Sign-in link emails are delivered by Resend; signing in with Google shares your Google account email and name with us and nothing more.
Newsletter. Creating an account subscribes you to our weekly newsletter (this is disclosed at sign-in). The list is managed by EmailOctopus; every issue contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects your account.
Tonight's pick quiz. The quiz at /tonight works without an email. If you choose to have your picks emailed, we store your email address, your answers (the feeling, energy level and services you picked) and the three films we sent, so we can deliver them and so the same address is not emailed more than twice a day. The email is sent by Resend, and the form tells you that it also adds you to our newsletter list (EmailOctopus), which you can leave with one click from that email or any issue. To stop abuse we keep a one-way scrambled version of your IP address with the request for 30 days, then delete it; we never store the IP address itself.
Links from our social accounts. When you arrive from a link on one of our social accounts (Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram), we set one small first-party cookie for 30 days that records which post you came from. It lets us count how many visitors, sign-ups and quiz subscribers each post brought in, in aggregate. It holds no personal information and is never shared.
Pairing. If you choose to pair with one other person (an explicit, mutual invite-link step), your watchlist and watched list become visible to that person and theirs to you, until either of you unpairs. Takes, notes, and ratings are never shared, even with your pair.
Your data is yours. Signed-in members can download everything we store about their film activity as a CSV from their account page, free, any time. To delete your account and its data, use the contact route at the bottom of this page and we will remove it.
Analytics. Our host (Cloudflare) provides aggregate, privacy-preserving traffic statistics (total visits, popular pages, countries) without tracking individual visitors across sites. We also record a few first-party product events on our own infrastructure (a page was viewed, a recommendation was clicked, a watch link was followed), tied to a random per-visit id rather than to you: these first-party events use no cookies, no IP addresses, no device fingerprints, and nothing that follows you to other sites. When a search comes up empty, we also record the search text itself (and nothing else) so we can add the titles people looked for and didn't find.
Outbound links. Some "Watch" links are affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). When you click one, the destination site (e.g. Amazon, Apple) may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. That happens on their site, not ours.
Trailers. Trailer playback uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, and it loads only after you click Watch trailer. Nothing from YouTube loads before that click; once playing, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to the player.
Advertising. If we introduce display ads in the future, the ad provider may use cookies for ad measurement and, where applicable, personalization; we will update this policy and provide any legally required consent controls before that happens.
Data sources. Movie metadata and images come from TMDB and OMDb; streaming availability data is powered by JustWatch. These are server-side data feeds and involve no visitor data.
Contact. Questions about this policy can be raised via the site's public repository or social channels.
